About the Institute

The Human Side of Artificial Intelligence

We help leaders and organizations apply the lessons of The Phantom Workforce — turning a way of seeing AI’s impact into a way of leading through it.

Why the Institute Exists

You’ve finished the book. What matters now is what you do Monday.

The AI Experience Institute™ was built for what happens next. After three decades helping people adapt to one wave of change after another, our founder kept seeing the same pattern: organizations buy the technology and assume the value comes in the box. It doesn’t. AI doesn’t fail because the algorithm is weak. It fails because no one taught the people to use it, or the leaders to lead through it.

Adoption is a behavior and culture problem, not a technology problem. That is the problem this Institute was built to solve.

The Problem the Institute Solves

Acquiring artificial intelligence is the easy part. Every competitor has access to roughly the same tools, which means the technology itself was never going to be your advantage. What determines whether AI creates real value is what happens after the purchase order: whether your people build genuine fluency, whether your leaders have the honest conversations a frightened workforce actually needs, and whether your culture rewards amplifying people or merely cutting them.

None of that comes installed. Capability is not communication — an email, a town hall, or a single training session does not change how an organization works, however well produced it is. Behavior change requires practice, tied to real work, sustained over time. That is the work most companies underestimate.

What Human-Centered AI Means Here

Human-centered AI is not a technical discipline. It is leadership applied to a specific moment: when a powerful new tool arrives, and an organization must decide whether to use it to need less from its people, or to unlock more from them.

Human + AI, in that order

The equation that guides this work is Human + AI, in that order. Lead with the human — give a capable person a powerful tool — and you get amplification: judgment and relationship at a scale that used to be impossible. Lead with the machine and treat the humans as a cleanup problem, and you get something that looks efficient on a spreadsheet and feels hollow to every customer who touches it. Same technology, opposite outcome. The order is the whole discipline, and it is what distinguishes the Institute from technical training providers, AI software vendors, general leadership firms, and futurist consultancies. We do not teach a model or a platform. We help you lead the humans who will actually use it.

What the Institute Helps Leaders Build

Working with the Institute, leaders build the capability to read real competitive pressure without panicking into it; to choose, deliberately, to amplify their people rather than default to cost-cutting; to identify and protect the human value — judgment, trust, taste, and care — a redesign could otherwise erase by accident; and to build genuine fluency across a workforce through practice tied to real work, not a single event.

That last point matters most. Capability spreads the way it always has: find the people who’ve already become fluent, turn them into teachers, give everyone else permission, time, and the safety to fumble, and celebrate the early wins loudly enough that the hesitant majority climbs aboard. It is unglamorous work. It is also the work that decides everything.

The Book-to-Institute Relationship

The Phantom Workforce introduced the ideas: the competitive forces making AI adoption inevitable, the human capacities no machine can fake, and the leadership choices that determine whether a company shrinks or grows because of them. The Institute is where individuals and organizations apply those ideas to their own teams and decisions.

The book creates awareness. The Institute turns that awareness into leadership behavior, workforce capability, and sustained performance. You do not need to have read the book to benefit from the Institute’s work — but everything we do rests on the same conviction the book argues for: the future belongs to the people who learn to work with AI, not to the AI itself.

The Human-Centered AI Leadership System

At the center of the Institute’s work is a framework introduced in The Phantom Workforce: the Human-Centered AI Leadership System. It gives leaders a small number of durable questions to run any AI decision through — a purchase, a rollout, a reorganization — instead of chasing a technology landscape that changes every quarter.

Its foundation is five questions, all beginning with the same letter on purpose, so they are hard to forget: Pressure, Purpose, People, Practice, and Proof. These five Ps form the foundation for everything the Institute teaches. A full explanation of each — what it asks, why it matters, and how the five work together — is available on our Founder page, where the framework is explained in the founder’s own words.

What the Institute Does Not Do

The AI Experience Institute™ is not a place to learn AI software, coding, model engineering, or prompting techniques. Many capable organizations already teach that well, and we will not duplicate it.

What we do teach is the human-centered leadership work that makes any of those tools worth having: judgment, organizational readiness, workforce adaptation, culture, and the conversations that turn a frightened team into an engaged one.

Guiding Belief

“The future will not be built by organizations with the best artificial intelligence. It will be built by organizations that bring out the best in human intelligence.”

For leaders, that means measuring more than cost savings, because the wrong metrics create the wrong behaviors. For teams, it means being given the practice, permission, and time to build real fluency, not just the announcement that fluency is now expected. For organizations, it means treating every efficiency AI creates as fuel for growth first, and a cost saving only as a last resort. This belief is not aspirational. It is the operating standard the Institute holds itself, and the leaders it works with, to.
